AAC Evaluations
AAC Evaluation and Training Program
Our Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) program serves both children and adults who need speech-generating devices (SGDs). Here’s what you can expect:
Device Trial Period: We spend 4-8 weeks trialing different devices, depending on your or your child’s physical challenges. If needed, we’ll explore accessories like wheelchair mounts, switches, eye-gaze technology, and head pointers. Sometimes, we’ll even bring in company representatives to help find the perfect fit.
Training Sessions: Once you receive your device, we provide 4-8 sessions to train both the AAC user and their support network. We know it can feel overwhelming at first, which is why we’re here to help you feel confident and comfortable.
Ongoing Support: Remember, AAC works best when it’s used regularly. We’ll teach you how to model language and integrate the device into daily life. While we can only teach so much in sessions, we’ll set you up for success so you can practice independently.
Our goal is to get you to a point where you only need occasional check-ins. We’re here to support you on your communication journey, helping you or your loved one find their voice and use it confidently.
